Member of Parliament for Wantage and Didcot Discusses the Impact of Research and the Role of UK Publishers with Leading Knowledge Services Provider
David Johnston OBE, Member of Parliament for Wantage and Didcot, visited Taylor & Francis based at Milton Park, to explore how published research can inform policy in key areas such as education, climate change and infrastructure.
International academic publisher Taylor & Francis employs over 2,000 staff worldwide, publishing more than 2,700 journals and 7,000 new books each year, across all research fields.
Johnston met representatives from a range of different departments during his visit, including a colleague from the Open Access team who joined through the Taylor & Francis apprenticeship scheme. Staff introduced the local MP to the aims of the organisation, its digital-first strategy and its work to help disseminate research, support communities, and drive research impact, both locally and globally.
David Johnston commented on his visit, “It was a pleasure to visit Taylor & Francis, discuss the issues facing their sector, and see first-hand the great work they and all their staff do. I am very pleased to have their headquarters in my constituency.”
Victoria Gardner, Director of Policy who coordinated the visit said: “Mr Johnston’s visit provided an excellent opportunity for Taylor & Francis to showcase the work of its dedicated and expert colleagues to validate, share, and curate research and to foster human progress through knowledge.”
The visit was facilitated by the Publishers Association as part of its ongoing efforts to connect its members to key parliamentarians, highlighting the important contribution made by the UK’s publishing industry.
