Bee House shortlisted for South East Property Award
Published on 14 June 2023
We’re buzzing to reveal the Bee House has received an award nomination for Workplace Fit-out of the Year at the Insider South East Property Awards, 2023.
Coinciding with the first year since opening on World Bee Day 2022, it’s a befitting achievement to mark the anniversary of Oxfordshire’s largest co-working space.
The transformation
The building’s 20-month fit-out transformed the 53,000 sq ft space – formerly home to Milton Park occupier RM Education who moved across the road – into a vibrant, state-of-the-art flexible and co-working space.
Exceptional natural lighting was injected into the previous dimly-lit space, via the installation of two-storey feature lightwells, with the surrounding outdoor space prioritising pedestrians and pollinators.
Achieving high levels of sustainability, the predominantly female-led project team managed to retain 89.9% of the building’s pre-existing envelope and delivered a 75% reduction in operational CO2 emissions. Where possible, furniture was also upcycled and repurposed.
The diverse mix of facilities provide the ideal launchpad for a range of SMEs and freelancers – from creative agencies, technology startups and spinouts – with the buzzy Hive Café serving as the perfect spot to relax, grab a bite to eat and catch up with friends.
We look forward to finding out the result at the awards evening on Thursday 13 July, but for now, we’re extending a huge congratulations to the whole project team on the shortlist nomination: ASA Landscape Architects, Ashdown Phillips, B&NES-Building-Control, Barnwood Limited, CBRE, Hadland Manning Bullock, Mainer Associates, QODA Consulting, Savills, SRA Architects LLP, Stantec, Terence O’Rourke and Total Projects.
