From Christmas hampers and winter warmers, to distributing a quarter of books sold in the UK, we meet the ‘Elves’ at Hachette, Whittard of Chelsea, Hampers.com and Ashdown Phillips who are working hard to make Christmas magical.
From factory to Christmas tree at Hachette
As one of the world’s largest publishers, Hachette UK distributes a quarter of the books sold nationwide. So, it’s no surprise that Facilities Administrator, Rachel Duff and the wider Hachette team are busy making sure books land under Christmas trees in time for the big day.
Hi Rachel! How are you preparing for Christmas?
“While the team at Hachette works hard distributing the books on your Christmas lists, I have the exciting task of bringing the Christmas spirit to the company.
“For the past four years, our team has been behind Hachette’s festive plans and we’ve started a bit of a tradition with the Twelve Days of Christmas. This involves all different departments putting forward an event or activity for everyone to get involved with in the run up to Christmas, from bake sales, charity book sales, quizzes and for the first time, an escape room.”
Which task do you enjoy most?
“My favourite part is organising our Christmas lunch. Accommodating 380 people is no small feat, but it’s always worth it. This year, we have something special in store with Christmas dinner served in a giant Yorkshire pudding. The best part? The management team will be rolling up their sleeves and serving the meal!”
Is there a book on your Christmas list this year?
“Definitely! I’m looking forward to reading All That Matters by Sir Chris Hoy.”
Season’s ‘eatings’ from Hampers
Christmas and gift hampers go hand in hand, so at Hampers.com, it’s the busiest time of year. The team caught up with Senior Product Marketing Executive, Hannah Bruce, to find out what she’s up to in the run up to Christmas.
What does your role involve in preparing for the festive season?
“It all starts months in advance! I write product descriptions and ensure our hampers shine online with detailed, accurate information and stunning imagery. I also handle online Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), set up festive web pages and plan promotions.
“I love seeing everything come together, when the hampers are photographed and launched, it’s incredibly rewarding to know our work is spreading joy. Starting so early means I get to enjoy the Christmas spirit for much longer, too!”
Is there a hamper on your Christmas list this year?
“I’d have to choose the Winter Wonders Christmas Gift Basket. It includes Prosecco, sweet treats and a lovely bottle of red wine, perfect for a cosy evening in.”
Brewing up campaigns at Whittard of Chelsea
For over a century, Whittard of Chelsea has been crafting premium teas, coffees and hot chocolates. Marketing Manager, Ellena Boucher spills the beans on the team’s seasonal promotions.
What does your role involve in preparing for the festive season?
“Christmas is always one of the most exciting times of the year! My job is to bring the festive season to life for our customers by organising in-store and online campaigns that highlight our seasonal gifts to ensure the most memorable experience.
“I love the traditions behind our products and it’s wonderful knowing our teas, hot chocolates and coffees are helping to create special Christmas moments for families. There’s something magical about knowing our gifts are part of someone’s holiday celebrations.”
Is there a Whittard treat on your Christmas list?
“The Christmas Spice Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans are at the top of my list. They’re the perfect indulgence with a cup of tea during the holidays.”
‘Tis the season for giving at Ashdown Phillips
Ashdown Phillips, the company overseeing the smooth running of the Innovation Centre and Bee House, were buzzing with ideas for the festive period. This year, Director & Head of Flexible Workspaces, Nikki Gibson, shares more about the team’s Christmas Toy Drive…
Hi Nikki! What does your role involve in preparing for the festive season?
“Christmas is all about giving back and at Ashdown Phillips, we’re proud to support a local cause each year. This time, we’re working with the Abingdon Community Events (A.C.E.) Christmas Toy Drive, which means collecting gifts for children from underprivileged backgrounds. It’s such a meaningful initiative that brings joy during a challenging time of year.”
What inspired you to choose the A.C.E. Christmas Toy Drive?
“The idea came from one of our occupiers, Crossland Employment Solicitors, who suggested the charity. Then, when our team member Corina mentioned she volunteers with A.C.E. every year, we knew we had to get involved. We set up collection crates in the Innovation Centre and Bee House receptions and the response has been incredible.
“One of our occupiers, ITGL, even pledged to match the number of gifts donated. Seeing everyone come together like this has been truly heartwarming. This is what Christmas is all about!”
